The Promise of an Island

A summer romance brimming with atmosphere tells the story of Dr. Alexis, whose soul needs healing, and the love he finds on the picturesque island of Groua. The author is the well-known French writer Sophie Tallemèn. Alexis, who worked as an emergency physician in dangerous regions for eight years, returns to Brittany after being wounded. Physically and morally exhausted, he is haunted by memories of those he was unable to help.

At the request of a friend, Alexis goes to Groua to temporarily take the place of a doctor who needs medical assistance. On this island, where life goes on as usual, he meets Olivia and her daughter. Olivia, a specialist in therapeutic massage, at first is skeptical toward Alexis, seeing him as arrogant and closed off. But even Olivia herself—someone who has survived a painful breakup—is in no hurry to open her heart. Both are used to caring for others, avoiding their own inner problems.
