Over the two quite turbulent—military in nature—last centuries, the surname “Clausewitz” has long migrated into the category of almost proverbial names, which perhaps best sums up his scientific activity. Clausewitz’s works are almost a unique attempt, using current, politically infused material drawn from personal experience, to create a dry military-historical, rational, and free from political mythology (as far as that is even possible) overview. “On War” is undoubtedly a brilliant example of analysis of current events (almost) stripped of the magic of names and slogans, written without the typical mistakes and prejudices of an eyewitness. Selected chapters from “On War” are presented to the reader, accompanied by a preface and comprehensive commentary.
