Lucius Annaeus Seneca was an ancient Roman philosopher and writer who studied rhetoric in Rome and wrote speeches, tragedies, philosophical treatises, and letters. His philosophical dialogues are teachings in Stoicism: they show how to live with dignity and meaning even when a person has no hope. They also call for steadfastness in the face of fate’s trials and serve as a kind of spiritual therapy for all. The collection includes treatises on the happy life, the brevity of life, the steadfastness of the wise man, foreknowledge, and anger.
