“The Saga of the Volsungs” is the most famous of the “sagas of ancient times,” telling the legendary history of Scandinavia. It describes the rise and decline of the Volsung line (Sigmund and Sigurd).
In the saga “Ragnar Lodbrok and his Sons,” we are told the story that served as the basis for the popular TV series “Vikings.” It provides a chronicle of the Scandinavians’ raids on the British Isles.
“The Saga of Odd the Arrow-Shooter” is an analogue of the Slavic tale about the Wise Oleg. It is unknown whether this saga gave rise to the creation of the ancient Russian legend about Oleg, or whether, conversely, the circumstances of Oleg’s death became the material for the saga.
