Vasily Vasilievich Kandinsky is an outstanding artist, art theorist, public figure, and philosopher. One of the founders of abstract art in painting and the main theorist of the Russian avant-garde. He was also an active participant in the cultural life of his time: founder of the “Blue Rider” group, vice-president of the Academy of Sciences of Art, taught at VKhUTEMAS, headed the Institute of Artistic Culture, taught at the German school of applied arts and design of the Bauhaus. The book includes Kandinsky’s most important works: his first theoretical justification for abstraction and the aesthetic manifesto “On the Spiritual in Art,” his autobiographical notes “Steps,” in which the artist explains why he devoted his life to art, and the fundamental study of the foundations of the visual language “Point and Line on a Plane.” The edition also includes articles on art pedagogy. The preface is by Natalia Ivanovna Druzhkova, one of Russia’s leading researchers of Vasily Kandinsky’s work, a translator, professor, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, and Candidate of Art History.
