Prirechensk was a charming provincial town, steeped—literally saturated—with culture. Next to it was the summer settlement of Lira, where plots were given to honored figures of art in the USSR. Directors, poets, painters became frequent guests of Prirechensk. Among them was director Pavel Pechersky. The maestro—so everyone called him—gathered around himself young people with artistic talent. He staged plays with them, cherished and nurtured them. But when his main talent—a dear little boy named Rodya Eskin—took his own life by throwing himself from an old water tower, the studio was shut down. Pechersky hid from everyone in his dacha house, but after nearly twenty years, the police came to him again…
