Why Are You Like That?

Life pushed me into a corner—my prestigious job was gone, and money was needed like air. But help came in time, even though it came from a completely unrelated person. I was offered to participate in an auction, and for that they promised to pay—royally. So I agreed. I outbid the stated amount and got the lot I needed. And could I have thought that later it wouldn’t just “come back to me”—it would threaten total collapse? After all, the person I outsmarted remembered me very well. And when he met me soon after, he didn’t miss the chance to get revenge.
