Novellas

French writer Marie-Henri Beyle (1783–1842), published under the name Stendhal, was one of the founders of the psychological novel. But alongside world-famous works such as “The Red and the Black,” “The Charterhouse of Parma,” and others, Stendhal’s pen also produced numerous biographies, treatises, memoirs, travel essays, articles, and novellas—among which the most famous are “Italian Chronicles.” Several of the author’s novellas are included in this collection.
