At Night All Wolves Are Grey

The Norwegian writer Gunnar Staalesen has been writing detective stories since 1970. He became especially famous for the series of novels about private detective Varg Veum—a lone fighter reminiscent of Ross Macdonald’s and Raymond Chandler’s best heroes. In total, about Veum there are around twenty novels, and we’ll begin getting acquainted with his story from the end—the 2006 book “Death’s Companions”—about an orphan boy whose foster parents all died under mysterious circumstances.
