A modest young man, Douglas Grimes, serves as a night doorman at a rundown hotel. In this life, nothing particularly pleases him, but nothing really upsets him either. However, the death of one of the guests turns his life upside down. In room 602, Douglas discovers not only the body of a dead old man, but also $100,000, which he decides to take for himself. Of course, such money should have an owner—and he will want to get his property back. So Douglas decides to leave the country and travel around Europe. And in Europe, the old man’s misadventures await Douglas—both pleasant and unpleasant.
You won’t want to get into the plot details. The novel is read in one sitting, and you can never be sure what will happen on the next page.
The book is completely free of any moralizing or teaching. Its motto could be “Viva la dolce vita!” It’s for those who are tired of Coelho and Bach, but who love unexpected twists and a rich language.
