“Night Music” is Jojo Moyes’s novel. This book is about love, about overcoming life’s hardships, and about the personal growth of a person.
The main heroine, Isabella, is used to accepting everything as it comes. Her husband handled financial matters, took care of household affairs, the nanny looked after two children, while Isabella herself focused on her career as a violinist. Her talent, career, and tours mattered most in her life.
But suddenly she had to face a heavy loss—her husband died in a car accident. It turned out that he left his wife with a large debt, and she herself can’t support the family. Isabella doesn’t even know how to deal with everyday household issues. In some ways, she resembles a naive and helpless child who isn’t suited to life and is pampered. The woman is left alone with two children. Her eight-year-old son stops talking, grieving his father’s death. Her teenage daughter behaves seriously and responsibly, solving some domestic matters.
Isabella learns that a far relative has left her a house near London as an inheritance. She comes there with her children. But it turns out she isn’t alone there. An old man is being cared for by Laura and Matt, who believe they should become the owners of the house and hope to survive as the widow of the owner. The developer wants to demolish the house by the lake and build an upscale settlement there. And Byron is simply looking for a place to live. For a while, the woman is under such stress that she doesn’t notice what’s happening. But gradually Isabella changes, gets used to the new life, and becomes a better mother. She realizes that there is also another music—music of the heart.
The author has drawn the heroine’s character well. You can see how she transforms from a pampered, naive woman into a serious, responsible one. Despite having to experience her husband’s death, perhaps it was exactly that which made her reconsider her values. Isabella becomes less self-centered and starts paying more attention to her children. When you see how a person changes for the better, it becomes easy and pleasant in your soul. Jojo Moyes managed to create this mood.
