The selection process for candidates for the Nobel Prize proceeds as usual when a Scandinavian Airlines plane crashes at Milan airport. All passengers die—including three members of the committee that decides the fate of the Nobel Prize in medicine. Shortly before the vote, a stranger approaches Professor Hans-Ulof Anderson, who is also a member of the Nobel committee, and offers him a very large sum of money to vote for a particular candidate. The professor indignantly rejects the offer. Then the unknown men kidnap his daughter. In despair, Anderson is ready to comply with any demands from the blackmailers. But he quickly realizes that he is only a small part of a much larger conspiracy. Then he turns to help from his brother-in-law, Gunnar. The obstacles and dangers Gunnar faces constantly grow, and there are fewer and fewer days left until the Nobel Prize ceremony…
