A modern artist from a liberal milieu goes as a volunteer to the SVO zone, is hit by a drone strike, and tries to make his way back to his own through a grey zone. Face to face with hidden fears, and undergoing a strange, almost ritual-like initiation in the Russian fields, he repeatedly returns in memory to his first trip to the still unrecognized “pirate” republics of Donbas during the Minsk Agreements era. His guide along the border between the real and the otherworldly is the legendary militia fighter known by the nickname Khvost.
