In the forest near the town of Algonquin Bay in the Canadian province of Ontario, the remains of an American tourist torn apart by animals are found. A little later, in the same forest, the corpse of a young female doctor is discovered. The investigation is assigned to local police officers John Cardinale and Liz Delorme. The police quickly establish that this is not a case of accidents, but murders committed by the same criminal. Cardinale manages to find out that the killed man is a former CIA employee. That gives the criminal police the right to hand the investigation over to others, but John Cardinale decides to untangle the case himself.
