Three girlfriends—three women’s stories, three different paths. In the difficult postwar years, Svetlana, Elena, and Tamara go to work in Wünsdorf as part of the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany. An accidental encounter on a train with three young officers changes everything: soon, in a “closed city”—as the Germans call the Soviet military garrison—three more young families appear.

But family life turns out to be far more complicated than anyone had dreamed.
