The novel by French author Gaston Leroux, “The Sun’s Bride,” takes the reader to South America in the early 20th century. Young engineer Raymond Ozu, along with his eccentric scientist-uncle, arrives in Peru and there meets again a long-time acquaintance—Maria-Theresa. Mutual feelings flare between them, but happiness is hindered by a tense situation: among the indigenous tribes, a rebellion is brewing, and rumors speak of the return of forgotten brutal rites. When Maria-Theresa is kidnapped, Raymond and his companions are forced to embark on a risky journey through a country engulfed in unrest, to save the girl before she is sacrificed and becomes “the Sun’s bride.”
