Korczak the pedagogue is known less than Korczak the writer. And yet, in education he wasn’t just a theorist and innovator—he was a practitioner who devoted thirty years to raising orphans, living alongside them, side by side. For the sake of pedagogy, Korczak left medicine—he believed that changing the world for the better is possible only through education.
The book includes three works by Janusz Korczak. “Inconsiderate Pedagogy” is a cycle of radio talks he gave in 1935–1936 under the pseudonym Old Doctor. “Moments of Upbringing” (1919) are lively notes and observations from his own rich experience. “The Right of the Child to Respect” (1929) is a program text in which Korczak’s main educational principles are presented concisely.
These conversations with a wise person who understood and firmly defended the value and dignity of childhood will surely be useful both to parents and to professionals—teachers, educators, and psychologists.
