Radio dramatization based on Leo Tolstoy’s novel “Resurrection”.
In “War and Peace” Tolstoy loved the “people’s idea,” and in “Anna Karenina” he especially valued the “family idea.” What, then, if we use Tolstoy’s own word, was his favorite “Resurrection” idea? Apparently, it was the “spiritual idea.”
“Resurrection” is one of Tolstoy’s most debated works. The theme of a penitent sinner in the novel gives rise to many interpretations and contradictory opinions. The repentance that begins when Prince Nekhlyudov recognizes in the defendant prostitute the girl he had seduced leads Nekhlyudov to her—and to hard labor for her—awakens love for the innocent victim.
Is Nekhlyudov’s sin redeemed before Katusha Maslova? And is he ready for a moral rebirth and spiritual resurrection? About this reflect the creators of the fifteen-part radio adaptation titled “Nekhlyudov. The Story of the Resurrection.”
