The novel—"Real Estate"—is written using Moscow material. The main character is a real-estate agent, a broker who sells apartments: a person inclined to reflection, but who managed to adapt to new conditions. Choosing such a hero allowed the writer to build an extraordinarily dynamic plot, describe many vivid psychological types, and recreate the frantic rhythm of today’s life—often turning into senseless fuss. Andrei Volos found a golden mean between sharp, plot-driven fiction and serious “confessional” literature, creating a truly modern novel that continues the traditions of Russian classical prose.
