Don't Give Me Away

Once, out of naivety, I saved from death the very Devil himself. I swear that if I’d known what kind of hell he would turn my life into, I wouldn’t have left him a single chance.

- Please, let me go!.. - I whisper almost soundlessly. - I promise, I won’t tell anyone anything!

The man kneels down and, squinting, starts looking me over.

Horror paralyzes me. I shut my eyes and don’t move. But somewhere deep inside me, a tiny flame of hope glimmers—maybe he forgot?.. Maybe he doesn’t remember what he did to me?

I take an incomplete breath and, opening my eyes, crash into his heavy, like concrete, gaze.

He remembers. Nothing is forgotten.
