The Bait

They are among us—supernatural beings, and sometimes, behind the mask of a perfectly pleasant-looking person, there may be someone who collects souls to climb the career ladder. How many of them were there: beauties and ugly ducklings, slender ones and curvy ones. Ray Hunter wrote down his observations in a small notebook for a report to the supreme demon. One more century, and he’ll be able to rise to the next step.
The main character forgets that he isn’t the only such collector—and he too might become bait for a similar creature.
He begins to feel the taste of life again, the way people feel who fear losing what for a while seemed ridiculous, funny, and alien to his nature. But the ending turns out to be unpredictable for Ray.
