An Inheritance with a Catch

My life was measured and calm until one wonderful day I received, as an inheritance, a large old mansion and a decent sum in a bank account from a woman I had never even met. At first I was greatly surprised, and then I realized that fate had finally smiled on me. Who would refuse such a thing? So I was happy too—overjoyed at the sudden wealth that had fallen on my head. Even the conditions mentioned in the will didn’t worry me, and soon my things and my cat Grishka moved into the new house—without yet knowing that the inheritance would turn out to have a huge catch.
