Captain Nemo's Legacy

Fleeing their pursuers in the coal mines of South Africa, the novel’s heroes descend into one of the abandoned galleries and, unexpectedly for themselves, find themselves in a marvelous world inhabited by prehistoric animals and relic trees. To their surprise, besides the amazing flora and fauna, there are traces of human presence: a former member of the crew of the Nautilus has lived alone in this underground place for more than thirty years, with no hope of rescue.
