Heirs of Triglav

The hero of the first book of the “Heirs of the Triglav” series is a twelve-year-old orphan named Lanek, nicknamed Paklya. The boy tries to find his place in a world ruled by Equilibrium—a state machine that rigidly controls the balance of science and magic. The previously warring Empire of Wandering Magicians and the Republic of Free Masters, from which the hero comes, became a single state under the leadership of Equilibrium—but even in this New Empire, contradictions and old enmities do not fade. Lanek dreams of becoming a mechanics master; as a resident of the Republic, he hates magic. And the hero has a family secret as well—he guards an ancient god of Triglav. A meeting with the master Daren gives the boy a chance to make his plans come true, but the path to his dream is full of all kinds of troubles, dangers, and misadventures. Instead of a mechanics school, Lanek ends up in an orphanage for street kids, where he meets both new enemies and loyal friends. For the sake of friendship and duty, he runs away from the orphanage, but then returns to face his enemies. The hero will have to look at the world and at himself in a new way, and by overcoming weakness, cowardice, and prejudice, end up right at the center of grand events. The book received the International Children’s Literature Prize named after V. P. Krapivin. Readers can expect a continuation.
