The novella “Our Youth’s Flight” (published in 1983) is the first—and still the only—work that analyzes the Stalinist era from the standpoint of scientific sociology. A. Zinoviev presents the historical necessity of the Stalinist system as a stage in the formation of communist social organization. He calls the Stalinist era “the youth of communism.” It is pointless to condemn or expose this great epoch; it must be studied, understood, and defined—its role in the history of society and in the evolution of all humankind.
