The collection “Folk Russian Tales” by A. N. Afanasyev first introduced the popular fairy-tale tradition to print in all its variety and authentic form, carefully preserving the distinctive features of its original poetics. Few books have influenced Russian culture as deeply as this collection, which, as V. I. Propp put it, became “a people’s book in the full sense of the word.” In this audiobook, the tales are read according to the 1860s edition (8 issues).
