Anfisa Lebedyeva seems to think she’s a clairvoyant. The gift revealed itself after a nervous shock, when the girl ended up in the hospital with a suspected oncological condition. Thankfully, everything turned out all right—but since then Anfisa is certain she can see the future. A small provincial town where she now lives keeps shaking her up with yet another prophecy. For example, one day when she goes to the local history museum, Anfisa sees a strange still life: a vase, a weight, and three rusty keys. The next day, the girl goes to the police and reports that a murder is being prepared in the city. No one believes her, but soon, a corpse of the painting’s author—a Moscow artist—is found for real, and the still life disappears. Anfisa insists that the painting is worth a fortune—and that information reaches the local oligarch, Nil Aksenkin, a lover of rarities and a patron.
