The Observation Squad

1913. War is already on the threshold. Riga factories and mills fulfill military orders; every number and detail matters greatly to the intelligence officers of the Evidenzbureau. But the “Observation Detachment” of Russian counterintelligence in Riga is on guard. Counterintelligence learns that the enemy is being supplied with information by a person who is connected to the “Motor” factory—simply because he is being blackmailed. Who is this person? What terrible crime did he commit in the past? How did this become known to the Evidenzbureau? The situation is exactly like the saying: “Go there, I don’t know where—bring what, I don’t know what.” Yet the former policeman, and now a counterintelligence agent nicknamed Labruiyer, if he takes a trail, goes all the way!
