Scotty Carey is a pretty ordinary American with a not-so-ordinary problem: he’s rapidly losing weight, yet he looks the same. And it doesn’t matter whether he weighs himself in clothes whose pockets are stuffed with small change or without it—the scale shows the same numbers.

But time goes on, and Scotty’s secret illness progresses every day. Isn’t it time to change something? That’s why, while the town is preparing for its annual Thanksgiving Day race, Scotty decides—despite all disagreements—to help his neighbors become part of Castle Rock and to improve their relations with the town’s residents. Will he manage to prove that for every person, even someone as cold as ice, there’s a bright side of them?
