“At the Turning Point (Cadets)” and “Junkers” are Alexander Ivanovich Kuprin’s autobiographical works. In the story “At the Turning Point,” published in 1900, he depicts "life in the cadet corps, harsh barracks discipline, and "bourgeois" morals." The novel “Junkers,” conceived as a continuation of the story, was written in 1928–1932. Later Kuprin said in an interview: “Bulanin is me, and the memory of the caning in the cadet corps stayed with me for life…”
