To the Lighthouse

An exquisite novel in which the times of events intertwine: the summer spent by the affluent Ramsey family on the island of Skye turns out to be a kind of British “chronicle of lost time”—a fragile, almost idyllic moment doomed to be destroyed soon by the First World War. When the children grow up, some will survive and become older, while others will lay their heads on the fields of battle. Small failures and grievances will be forgotten.
