Before the long-suffering public, and even more long-suffering critics, I present this volume of apocryphal Forsyte adventures, begging you to grant me the following extenuating circumstances: It is hard to give up those with whom you have lived for so long; and these brief sketches will help fill in the gaps and add to the "Chronicle of the Forsyte Family." All of them were written after "The Swan Song," but they should be read between "The Saga" and "The Comedy," since without "The Saga" they will not be understood, and the action ends before "The Comedy" begins. In the hope of forgiveness, I offer them to you. John Galsworthy
