“We” is a dystopian novel (1920) by Yevgeny Ivanovich Zamyatin (1884–1937) with elements of satire. The action takes place approximately in the thirty-second century. The novel describes a society of strict total control over the individual (first and last names are replaced with letters and numbers; the state controls even one’s intimate life), ideologically based on Taylorism and scientism, and driven by a “benefactor” selected on a no-alternative basis.
