Lesya, Nath, Elizabeth. On the face of it, what could be more ordinary or more banal than a love triangle? But when it comes to Atwood’s novel, you have to forget all ordinary banality. Her view of family, of relationships between people—it's special, unlike anything else.
Human nature, basically, has not changed since prehistoric times, and evil has never become good. Love cannot be replaced by attachment, and all of us, like Atwood’s characters, want to know what we live for.
