Note:
Sometimes the cycle is split into only two books: «Mufta, Polbotinka and Mukhova Boroda» and «And again Mufta, Polbotinka and Mukhova Boroda».
Based on the first two books, the two-part animated film «Mufta, Polbotinka and Mukhova Boroda» («Naksitrallid») was made at «Tallinnfilm». The Estonian State Puppet Theatre created stage productions based on Raud’s works: «Naksitrallid» and «Again these Naksitrallid». In 1981, a filmstrip «Mufta, Polbotinka and Mukhova Boroda» appeared based on the first part of the cycle.
The Russian translation by Lev (Leo) Vaino was approved by Raud himself. Interestingly, in the original the cycle is called «Naksitrallid» (Naksitrallid) — this is the name of the main characters, but in the earliest translations Vaino’s version this word is absent altogether (the translator initially calls the three friends simply “little people”), and it appears in Russian editions only in the 1980s.
As a result of a poll conducted in 2000, «Naksitrallid» ranked among the top places on the list of the best children’s books in Estonia of the 20th century.
