Helga Wojik (Helga Vodžik) is the creative pseudonym of a popular illustrator artist. She is known mainly for creating collectible cards for Western publishers, including famous companies such as Marvel and DC Comics. Over time, Helga Wojik decided that to create her own authorial worlds for a graphic novel wasn’t enough—so she didn’t just draw, but also write. That’s how the book “Abbar’r. Ash and Wings” appeared, published by Eksmo with the author’s illustrations. The novella “Monsters Under the Stairs” was written by Helga Wojik for the literary contest of children’s and teen fantasy “Territory F” and won for the author. The hero of the book is almost eleven years old, and he is smart beyond his years. However, life doesn’t turn out the best way. The boy has no father: he once mysteriously disappeared, leaving no trace. Max also has almost no friends, because he and his mother constantly move from place to place. His mother, a doll-maker, makes ends meet with occasional jobs, and money is always chronically short. Unexpectedly, Max and his mother inherit an old house in a remote town—Amberton. That’s where the boy spends the summer. Life in Amberton turns out to be far less boring than he imagined. The city holds many secrets, and some of them are directly connected to Max’s fate and his missing father. What’s more, the boy gets a real monster of his own—not scary at all, but with a very good appetite.
