Andrei Volos debuted as a prose writer in 1986, publishing his first story in a magazine. Three years later, his prose book appeared—a collection of stories and novellas.
Andrei Volos is a laureate of the Russian State Prize for Literature and Art (2000) for the novel “Hurramabad,” and a winner of the literary awards “Anti-Booker” and “Moscow-Penne.”
He has been honored with awards from the journals “Krestyanka,” “Znamya” (1996), “New World” (2001), the “Anti-Booker” prize “The Brothers Karamazov” (1998), and was a finalist for the “Big Book” award (2005, 2006).
He served on the jury of the award named after Yury Kazakov (2001), and of the Booker Prize (2002).
In 2013 Andrei Volos’s book “Return to Pandjrud” became the laureate of the literary prize for best novel of the year “Russian Booker.”
