Based on real events, the novel reveals secret operations by Soviet intelligence officers. The author has information that can be partially disclosed only now. In the late 1960s, Mossad intelligence managed to capture a Soviet MiG-21 fighter that posed a threat to Israel in the impending conflict with Arab countries. In response, Soviet counterintelligence received an order to kidnap the newest French fighter “Mirage” from one of the NATO bases, where it was being prepared for transfer to the Middle East. The mission is assigned to an agent codenamed Icar, who recruited a Lebanese aviation lieutenant. The lieutenant agrees for significant pay to fly the fighter to the required location. But soon Icar discovers that this lieutenant is not who he claims to be. “The book shows the true life of a spy whose work demands constant tension and the ability to hide his real goals, despite the opponent’s tricks. Only the best prepared can handle such a task…” notes the SVR colonel and illegal intelligence officer E. Vavilova.
