The story is built according to the canons of the “women’s romance”: the heroines—different in temperament and fate—are nevertheless irresistibly attractive; the heroes are smart, strong, and resolute. These are people with pride and tumultuous feelings, and love turns out to be stronger than stubbornness… Fate throws Verner’s characters into difficult, and sometimes even dramatic, trials, yet justice prevails, and, in keeping with the tradition of the genre, the ending brings happiness.
