Nikolai Albertovich Kunn (1877–1940) was a Russian historian of the turn of the 19th–20th centuries who studied the culture and religion of peoples around the world. Published in 1912 and never reissued, “Myths and Tales of the Peoples of Africa” is the first major independent study by the author. The book preserves photographs and drawings from the original edition. There is no people on the entire globe that wouldn’t have its own folk creativity. Myths and tales are highly valuable material for anyone who wants to learn about Africa’s worldview, everyday life, customs, and traditions; even when Africans tell tales about monstrous or supernatural beings created by imagination, the African always depicts his everyday life with striking accuracy, without any embellishment.
