"The Bloody Cricket" is the second book in the "Miasms" series and continues the plot begun in the books "Skyrba of the Saint with the Red Thread" and "The Bubble of Mira and Ne’Mira". The novel is a sinister blend of dark fantasy and horror. Author Flavius Ardelian is known for his unique style that intertwines motifs of dark fantasy, magical realism, and body horror.
The story begins when a priest in the city of Alrauna discovers a burned man on the steps of a church. No one knows how he got there, since no fire was visible, but the unfortunate man survived, having lost his ability to speak. Sarban takes him under her protection, and soon strange events start happening: rat-people appear, a sinister man with a horse’s head, and teenage girls fall ill with sleep from which they cannot wake. Fear grips the city; the boundaries between worlds grow thinner; and soon comes an era of dreadful miracles, in which People and Ne’People join in the final battle at Alrauna.
