By 1989, the long dispute over Nagorno-Karabakh grows into civil war, marked by frequent street clashes and shootings. Soviet leadership does everything possible to maintain control, urgently sending special military units and students from the Ministry of Internal Affairs higher educational institutions to the region. Among them is Viktor Voronov, a resident of Khabarovsk—brave and quick-witted, who often finds himself at the epicenter of events. During an attack at one of the checkpoints, Voronov and his commander are shelled by unknown shooters. The peacemakers manage to survive, but amid the chaos one of Viktor’s comrades disappears. Saving a fellow becomes a matter of honor for him. Voronov starts searching, becoming an accidental witness to horrifying events.
This is how the truth of war is revealed—strategic plans, command victories and mistakes, the enemy’s cunning, the heroism of soldiers and officers—realities of the not-so-distant past.
