On the small northern island of Amrum, the dead body of the director of a children’s home is found. Local police believe it was a natural cause, but the autopsy shows he was murdered. Chief Inspector Lena Lorenz is surprised that her boss, Warnke, hands this case to her, because earlier he removed her from a special investigative commission and filed a request to demote her. Lena, who was born and raised on Amrum and left the island fourteen years ago, is forced to plunge into unpleasant memories connected to this place. The investigation she’s been assigned proves difficult. Under suspicion come not only people from the victim’s closest circle, but also well-known individuals. Only little by little does Lena understand why her boss sent her to Amrum in the first place.
