Description
William Faulkner (1897–1962) is one of the greatest American writers of the twentieth century. The action of his works unfolds in the fictional county of Yoknapatawpha, which embodies all the real features of the American South. A person “in conflict with himself, with his fellow human being, with his time, with the place where he lives, and with his surroundings”—that is the main object of Faulkner’s creative research.

In the novella “The Bear,” the state of the human spirit in its interaction with nature is revealed. With bitterness, the author writes about how nature dies under the pressure of modern mechanized civilization.
