Caricature, irony, hyperbole, grotesque, parody, and humor gave his satirical works different shades. One of the poet’s own collections is even titled: “Mayakovsky smiles, Mayakovsky laughs, Mayakovsky mocks.”
It includes poems and excerpts from long poems, ditties and epigrams, sketches and feuilletons, where indignant satire is combined with cheerful humor, and bitter, vicious mockery with heroic pathos and lyrical heartfelt tenderness.
