Who among us doesn’t long for Winnie-the-Pooh and Carlson—those who are forever left in our childhood! With the appearance of Mas’kin, we again found a positive, likable in every way character who is interesting primarily to adults. At last, a very funny and touching humorous novel by Boris Krieger—“Mas’kin”—has been published. The writer manages to combine the simplicity of a straightforward story with deep philosophical thoughts, irony and kindness, fiction and reality.
The socially sharp orientation of Krieger’s works brings to mind the traditions of Russian social satire, in particular the works of N. V. Gogol and M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin, which created literary models of Russian life, reflecting its shortcomings like in a mirror.
