This is a fairy tale about a boy named Vitya who doesn’t believe in fairy tales. He doesn’t believe because he is a very knowledgeable boy, familiar with the laws of nature. So knowledgeable that his friends call him “The Professor.”
But it is also a fairy tale about a girl named Masha who does believe in fairy tales. Because children—even the smartest and most scholarly ones—must still believe in fairy tales. Without fairy tales it would be boring to live in the world, wouldn’t it?
So, boy Vitya, who doesn’t believe in fairy tales, and girl Masha, who does—are the main characters of this… fairy tale. I said the word “fairy tales” and tripped over it. How can there be a fairy tale about someone who doesn’t believe in fairy tales? It turns out the fairy tale is not entirely ordinary.
And if you look at the cast list, you’ll see many familiar fairy-tale heroes: Snow White, the Forest Spirit, Koshchey, and Baba Yaga. But have you ever seen in an ordinary fairy tale such fairy-tale characters as Matvey the Cat—the leader of the vocal-instrumental ensemble “Wild Guitars”? And have you ever read a fairy tale in which Baba Yaga plays the drums, and the Forest Spirit plucks the strings of a guitar?
So you’re in for an unusual fairy tale.
Even more interesting!
In this fairy tale, songs will be heard and scenes staged. And I think you’ll listen to it with interest, and then you’ll figure out: where is reality here, and where is—fairy tale. Maybe you’ll even argue with one another.
But most importantly, you will understand: a person can’t live without a fairy tale—even if around them happen miracles that aren’t fairy-tale at all: rockets fly to Mars, and moon rovers stroll around the Moon.
So, have a happy journey into the fairy tale about Masha and Vitya!
