Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle (1859–1930) — an outstanding English writer of Scottish origin. His works span a wide variety of genres: adventure, historical, journalistic, fantastic, and humorous. The characters he created—such as the brilliant detective Sherlock Holmes, the eccentric Professor Challenger, and some others—belong to the first ranks of world-famous literary heroes.
The proposed collection includes Conan Doyle’s science-fiction works. In the novel “The Maracot Deep,” Professor Maracot explores a trench in the Atlantic Ocean in search of a sunken city inhabited by descendants of the Atlanteans. In the story “When the Earth Screamed,” Professor Challenger—who believes our planet is a living being—reaches its “flesh” by breaking through the Earth’s crust.
