The world shattered into fragments: wars, technogenic accidents, and natural catastrophes redrew the map and the familiar order of things. Those who survived sometimes gained strange talents, and seas and oceans were filled with mutated creatures. Where, now, is the line between regression and a leap forward—it’s no longer all that important. On the far fringe of what was once a great power, a research-hunting group notices a young native with a rare gift—and declares him its quarry. The distant edge of a once-strong state destroyed by war and a string of technogenic disasters.
