I saw him through the roadway. He was looking at me, agitatedly. Then he moved toward me straight on a red light. Without thinking, I rushed out to meet him. My skin flared brightly again. The cars began to honk. Someone slammed on the brakes. I ran to the little one. Now he was right there. But then I saw that his skin was starting to glow with the same light as mine. I couldn’t see his face because of the brightness. I couldn’t make out even his facial features. And when I reached for him, my hand slipped right through the boy. I froze in surprise. A car horn sounded and brakes screeched. As if in slow motion, I turned my gaze to the side—and at that moment the car hit me in the ribs…
